Computing and Information Technology Scholarship Programme Regulations

Purpose:

The Information Technology Scholarship Programme was established in 2008 to recognise and promote academic excellence in Information Technology students at National Technology Institute.

Number and Value:

Up to 9 full scholarships and up to 16 partial scholarships are awarded annually for undergraduate and diploma programmes. These scholarships cover the tuition fees only and the amount covered varies according to country. National Technology Institute is not obliged to make the full number of awards in any year.

The Board of Directors, at their discretion, may agree to award additional scholarships.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply, an applicant must:

  1. Be an international student who has not previously studied at National Technology Institute, and
  2. Fulfil the general criteria and country specific criteria for applying for a scholarship, and
  3. Meet all the necessary immigration requirements to study in New Zealand, and
  4. Not be in receipt of any other scholarship.

Selection:

The most important selection criteria are:

  1. Academic merit
  2. Commitment/interest in pursuing a career in computing and information technology
  3. Cultural and sporting participation and achievement
  4. Community service
  5. General character

The scholarship will be awarded by the Board of Directors on recommendation of a selection committee which shall comprise:

  1. The convenor of the Scholarships Committee or nominee, and
  2. The Student Services Manager, or nominee, and
  3. The Head of Information Technology or nominee.

Tenure:

  1. The scholarship shall be tenable for three consecutive trimesters; previous recipients are ineligible to reapply in subsequent years.
  2. The scholarship is not tenable with any other scholarship, bursary or award.
  3. Should a scholar withdraw from study at any time during the tenure of the scholarship, they shall not be eligible for any refund of the scholarship and will be required to pay a penalty for withdrawal.

Reviews of Progress:

  1. Continuation of the scholarship for the second and third trimester of study shall be conditional upon satisfactory academic progress of the previous trimester. National Technology Institute will review the academic progress of each scholar at the end of each trimester.
  2. If the Board of Directors, at any time, is satisfied that the scholar is not diligently pursuing his or her studies; or is not complying with the conditions of the scholarship; or is not making satisfactory progress, then the Board of Directors may suspend or terminate any scholarship and require the forfeiture of any unused proportion of the scholarship amount.
  3. If the scholarship is withdrawn as a result of point 1 and 2 above, then the scholar is liable for the remainder of tuition fees, payable at the commencement of the next academic trimester.

Concessions:

The board of directors may relax or modify the application of any of these regulations in special circumstances or in order to avoid hardship to any scholar or candidate for a scholarship.

Amendments:

National Technology Institute has the power to amend or vary these regulations at any time.

Applications:

Applications should be made on the Scholarship Application Form and must be received at least two months prior to the commencement date of the course along with the required documents.

These regulations shall take effect from November 2008
